UK exports of aluminium to the USA will no longer be subject to tariffs.

The two countries agreed a deal yesterday (Thursday May ) where exports of steel and aluminium would now be zero-rated for tariffs, according to the UK government.

As part of the agreement, the first 100,000 British cars sold in the US annually — the vast majority of the total — would be subject to a reduced 10% levy.

UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said: “This historic deal delivers for British business and British workers, protecting thousands of British jobs in key sectors including car manufacturing and steel.”.

However, nothing has been signed yet and no date has been given when the removal of the tariff is effective from.

Both governments said the details of the agreement would be worked on in the coming weeks.
