US aluminum maker Novelis, a subsidiary of India’s Aditya Birla Group, has announced the launch of the Ulsan Aluminum Recycling Centre, a new aluminum scrap recycling facility built in South Korea.
The investment in the joint project with Japan’s Kobe Steel was $65 million. The facility can produce up to 100,000 tons of secondary aluminum slabs annually, obtained by recycling can, industrial, and other aluminum scrap.

According to Novelis, the use of secondary aluminum is becoming increasingly popular in many industries, as its production allows for a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions compared to the production of primary metal.

The American company ranks first in the world in terms of aluminum scrap recycling capacity. In South Korea alone, they reached 470,000 tons per year after the launch of the new facility. In this country, in particular, Yeongju is located – the largest can scrap processing complex in Asia.
