Saudi Arabian aluminium manufacturer Ma’aden reported an increase in production of its flat rolled products (FRP) by 48%.

Production of flat rolled products in the first quarter of the year was 72kt compared to 57kt in the first quarter of 2024.

Elsewhere, alumina production increased 9% to 478kt, while aluminium production increased by 1% to 249kt compared to 246kt last year.

Its aluminium business unit, which comprises of aluminium, alumna and flat rolled products production, generated revenue of SAR2.71 billion ($722.5 million) in the quarter – a decline of 9% from the previous quarter.

It said it expects to produce between 850kt and 1150 kt of primary aluminium this year, with FRP output expected between 250 and 310 KMT.

“Despite near-term trade uncertainty, medium to long-term market fundamentals for aluminium remain favourable,” it said.

Earnings before tax and interest (Ebita) was up by 4% quarter on quarter, mainly due to higher aluminium and flat rolled product (FRP) prices.

Flat rolled products sales volumes increased by 26% in addition to improved pricing year on year.

Tariffs

In the report, it said the proposed US tariffs will have a limited direct impact on its financial results, though it may disrupt trade flows in the near term.

“Maaden maintains a competitive cost structure across its portfolio of products, which are critical to the global economy and supplied to a geographically diverse customer base,” the company said in the first quarter 2025 financial statement.

Developments will be monitored closely, and updates will be provided in due course, the statement added.
