Hydro has temporarily stopped hiring for office-based and executive positions within the company.
The Norwegian-headquartered aluminium manufacturer said it was temporarily halting hiring what it described as white collar positions across group functions, Business Areas and Global Business Services, effective immediately.
It is response to continued global uncertainty.
It said the global business environment has been shaped by geopolitical tensions, trade disruptions and economic volatility.
The company had already introduced measures to mitigate these challenges, but is now taking further action to ensure it remains well positioned for the future.
Eivind Kallevik, its President and CEO, said: “The world has changed, and we must adapt to the new reality. We are now taking action.”
The hiring freeze will pause all new and ongoing external recruitment for white collar roles in the affected areas.
Recruitment for blue collar positions in the Business Areas will continue as planned.
According to Wikipedia, a white-collar worker is a professional who performs office-based or similar service-based jobs, as opposed to a blue-collar worker, whose job requires manual labour.
In parallel, Hydro is launching a structured review of the number of white collar employees to ensure alignment with strategic priorities and operational efficiency.
This review will help the company assess its current and future needs.
